South Carolina Falls Short in Early Childhood Funding

Did you know that, on the averge, 32% and 39%, respectively of a two-parent family's income goes in to preschool and infant child care each month (NACCRRA, 2005) ?

Child Care in South Carolina costs an average of $4,446. For accredited child development centers--those supposedly tagged for as "high quality" centers--, the price jumps to about $4,850 dollars in the South (NACCRRA, 2005)...that's not even optimal quality.

If an early childhood educator could get any amount for each child to supply them with the ideal early childhood experience, it would be about $10,000. SC, on the other hand, allocates about $3,000 for each child in their public school system.

Any wonder why early childhood education is not up to par?
