America Gets New Head Start Leader

Channell Wilkins of New Jersey Head Starts takes over after the last stable leader, Windy Hill, abruptly resigned around this time last year after being under the accusatory eye of the HHS Department following alledged financial mismangement of funds. My only beef about him, from what I know, stems from his inexperience as a early childhood teacher. Nevertheless, I stand confident that he will put his best foot forward to progess Head Start after it stalled a bit last year.

As a male early childhood professional, I find it quite inspiring to see so many males recently ascend to lead key organizations within a field that claims a workforce comprised of 98% women. Men, in another example, served two of the last three presidencies of the NAEYC (National Assocation for the Education of Young Children). Dwayne Crompton, elected by the membership, served a brief time before resigning due to health concerns in early 2005. Josue Cruz, Jr. will finish off his remaining term this summer.

Britney's Impending Second: Parenting Take Two

Baby # 2 from the Spears/Federline camp will emerge in about five months. I pray they continue on their wonderful road to pregnancy with the smallest about of paparazzi as possible.

Both The Pap and the "honest" media hound her way too much about her parenting skills. She must break the learning curve just like every mother. Her worldwide fame should not compel her to parent in a superstar way. It takes time.

I saw the overblown publicity surrounding her incident while driving with her son in her lap (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4692974.stm) and her visit from LA child welfare agents due to a skull fracture(http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12283870/). Please understand that these things happen many times all across the USA. Britney makes child-rearing mistakes just like the best of us. From the outside-looking in, it looks a lot more intuitive. Every family situation bears unique differents that make drawing general conclusions too inaccruate (Couchenour & Chrisman, 2003; Swick, 2004)

Kids fall at home all the time (http://www.safeusa.org/falls.htm). She just needs to learn from her mistakes (http://www.nsc.org/library/facts/kidfalls.htm)because sure it happened inadvertently. As long as she takes note of whether he cries continuously or just for a little while after a fall, she can determine the extent of any injury (Spock & Needlman, 2004).

God bless you Britney. Keep working at it and keep smiling:)
